19th MISSION AN ALL TIME RECORD! |
The Beeve Foundation for World Eye & Health Care, Inc., founded in 1989 by Jerold E. Beeve, M.D. and his
wife Dorothy Beeve, R.N., is proud to have completed our 19th annual volunteer medical mission and eye clinic to Fiji. This
year we broke all previous records by accomplishing 192 major eye surgical procedures! We are proud to announce that in 19
years we have successfully treated 3% of the Fijian population with eye and health care. Once
again Variety, The Children’s Charity Medical Missions to The South Pacific, joined our 19th
joint medical and eye care mission in Savusavu, Fiji. Thanks to Peter Drummond for all his help
and efforts. Thanks to Greg Taylor
of the Jean-Michael Cousteau Fiji Island Resort and Savusavu Community
Foundation who
helped greatly with lodging, meals, and bus transportation as they have for the past 6 years. Mike Terry
of Williams & Gosling, Ltd. received our supplies and transported them right to the Savusavu
Hospital at no expense to our Foundation. Jonetani Lasaqa, a Fiji government
official, and Idrish Kahn with the Ministry of Health of Fiji were able
to assist in having our urgent supplies pass through customs safely. Fiji citizens Harry and Jackie Powell (husband
and wife) and their friend Gertie East helped once again, as they have for years, with electrical,
maintenance and organizational help at the Savusavu Hospital in setting up and helping run the Eye Clinic. Thanks to Air
Pacific for major assistance in making each trip possible, trouble free and comfortable for all our volunteers.
The Fiji Audio Visual Commission helped get the word out about our 2009 visit. On behalf of our
Beeve Foundation Board and our all-volunteer medical team, thank you for all you have done. Vinaka Vakalevu.
